Brian is a 2009 graduate of the University of Georgia, with a degree in Newspapers. He plans for a career in journalism and hopes to continue to specialize in investigative pieces.

Investigative Journalism

1st Place: $3,000

3rd Place: $1,000

This competition is open to college and university students with majors in journalism, mass media and electronic communication, but is not limited to those majors. Investigative reporting requires documentary research, the use of public and private records, interviewing and other journalistic skills with a focus on the accountability of individuals and institutions wielding power.

Rules for Entry

Topics must be of general interest and subjects may include but are not limited to politics, government, economics, education, social issues, community activism and health care.

  • Submissions must have been published or broadcast in some public forum no later than March 31, 2010
  • Radio/Television taped submissions: no longer than 15 minutes
  • One copy only of contest material need be submitted, along with website information if possible
  • Postmark deadline for entries: April 16, 2010
